Governor Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr. signed Senate Bill 485, the Solar Energy Grant Program sponsored by Senator Robert Garagiola, into law on April 27, 2004. This program provides funding for a portion of the costs to install certain qualifying solar energy systems.

The Maryland Energy Administration will begin taking applications in January of 2005. The incentives will be as follows:

Solar water heating property: 20% of system costs up to a maximum of $2,000

Residential photovoltaic property: 20% of system costs up to a maximum of $3,000

Non residential photovoltaic property: 20% of system costs up to a maximum of $5,000
