PV Powered Systems are suitable for mild and moderate climates where there is no risk of freezing. Freeze protection can be provided by a freeze protection drip valve that will allow water to leak out by the collector at low temperatures introducing warmer water to the collector loop. The system operates at standard 80 PSI line pressure.

We recommend closed loop systems with either a PV panel or controlled by a solar controller in northern climate. The system consists of two autonomous loops, solar loop and domestic hot water system. A heat transfer fluid (such as Dowfrost Inhibited Propylene Glycol-based Heat Transfer Fluid) is pumped through the collector manifold transferring collected heat to water in a solar tank via its heat exchanger. A PV panel powers the solar loop pump when solar energy is available.

Operation
|
-
City water enters the storage tank at line pressure, filling the collector through isolation valves and solar pump.
-
The PV Panel establishes that solar energy is available and turns on the solar pump.
-
The pump circulates water from the tank to be heated by the collector.
-
When no more solar energy is available, the pump stops.
-
An optional freeze protection drip valve will allow water to drip from the system if the temperature approaches freezing.
